The last time the Timberwolves had the first pick in the draft was back in 2015, when they drafted Karl Anthony-Towns. Fast forward five years to the present day and Minnesota finds themselves in the exact same position.

There is some glimmer of hope for T-Wolves fans though. Minnesota has two young all-stars in D’Angelo Russell (24 years old) and Karl Anthony-Towns (24 years old). If they draft the right guy this year, Minnesota could be set nicely for future, so who is the right guy for Minnesota? Well, the right guy is Anthony Edwards.

At 6’5”, 225 lbs, and 42 inch vertical, the 19 year old Edwards is a powerhouse athlete. The dude is a freight train when driving to the basket. Nobody, even grown men don’t want to get in his way.

The best payer in the draft according to ESPN’s Jay Bilas, Edwards does have some red flags. In his one season at Georgia, Edwards struggled shooting beyond the three point line, shooting a measly 29.3%, which is a must in today’s NBA. However, that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Edwards shot 77.2% from the foul line and averaged close to eight three point attempts a game. According to The Ringer, history has shown that these numbers are a bigger indicator of a players ability to shot three’s in the NBA.

Out of all the top prospects in this years draft, Edwards fits the best with Minnesota. With Russell needing the ball in his hands, and KAT being the guy Minnesota runs their offense through, the Timberwolves need a guy that can play without the ball and can defend multiple positions. Edwards is that guy. Edwards also has massive upside. At Geogria he showed superstar flashes.

With his frame, Edwards can develop into a great defender. The only question is if he can develop a consistent jumper. If Edwards can do that, then their’s no question he can become an all-star one day.
