Michael J Zorgy, a researcher at the University of Kansas dsicovered a recording from 1891 of James Naismith explaining how the game of basketball was invented on a New York City radio show.

James Naismith was a physical educator that was far more creative than his colleagues. James needed to find a way to keep students active during the harsh winters of New England, so he went to the drawing board to create a sport that could be played in the school gym.
