2020 NBA Free Agency

3. Montrezl Harrell – Los Angeles Clippers (Unrestricted)

Erik Williams/USA Today Sports

Harrell’s an interesting case. He’s coming off a season where he won the Sixth Man of the Year award, with averages of about 19ppg and 7rpg.

The Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell pick and roll proved to be one of the best in the league. Defenses couldn’t stop it.

Harrell is a force in the paint. He plays harder than anyone in the league. He’s tenacious around the rim, and he’s an underrated passer coming off the pick and roll. For his game to take the next step, he needs to improve his mid-range jumper. Having said that Harrell is a good player that any team would be happy to have.

If that’s true, then why would the Clippers decide not to re-sign him. Well, if LeBron James or Jimmy Butler were the biggest winners coming out fo the bubble, then Harrell might have been the biggest loser.

He got destroyed by Nikola Jokic in the Western Conference Semis. Harrell’s defense is a real problem. He struggles against bigger guys like Jokic, or Davis or Joel Embiid. For that reason and the fact that Harrell’s going to ask for the bank, the Clippers might decide not to bring him back.

It will be interesting to see where Harrell ends up. Dallas could be a good fit. Maybe a weak team with a lot of cap space pays big for the big man.

4. Goran Dragic – Miami Heat (Unrestricted)

Kim Klement/USA TODAY Sports

Dragic played out of his mind in the bubble. He was straight up balling, playing the best basketball of his career. Dragic was Miami’s most consistent player in their run to the Finals, and if it weren’t for his injury, who knows what happens in the 2020 Finals.

Now, the 34 year old is entering free agency. Dragic has come out publicly and said that he wants to remain in Miami, but he will test the free agency market.

Similar to the VanVleet situation, a team might decide to throw a lot of money at Dragic which the Heat can’t match. Miami, like Toronto is one of the teams rumored to be in the mix for Giannis next season. It’s likely that they would tarnish their hopes for a player like Giannis, to sign an aging guard in Dragic. With that being said, Dragic could decide to take less to remain in Miami since he likes it so much there and he’s set on playing for a contender.
