Rui Hachimura Kicked In His Nuts So Hard That He Had Surgery

In March of 2017, Hachimura became the first Japanese native to ever appear in the NCAA Division I tournament after playing one minute.

Through 28 games as a freshman, Hachimura averaged 2.6 points, and 1.4 rebounds, while shooting 53% from the field, and only playing an average of 4.6 minutes per game. In his 2017-18 campaign, he stepped up to the plate — big time.

Hachimura appeared in 37 games for Gonzaga including two starts, and averaging 11.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.

Coming into his junior season, Hachimura was named to the Preseason All-WCC team. In the season opener, he scored 33 points an a 120-79 win over Idaho state. Later that season, he helped upset Duke in the Maui Invitational Finals, who was ranked number one at that time, by scoring 20 points while grabbing 7 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists.
