7. Memphis Southmen

The team played in the World Football League, which folded in 1975. The owner, John Bessette, tried getting his team into the NFL, but the league rejected his application. Bessette filed a lawsuit against the NFL. However, he became the owner of the Tampa Bay Bandits and the lawsuit fell apart.

8. Baltimore Bombers

Baltimore Colts owner moved the team to Indianapolis, causing fans to try for another team. The NFL was looking to expand and considered Baltimore. The city came up with the team in attempts to reach their goal but the NFL chose Jacksonville and Carolina, instead. Baltimore got their wish almost 10 years later, when they got the Ravens.
