Los Angeles Lakers Will Guarantee Dwight Howard’s Contract

In other words, the Lakers have basically been paying Howard to be a day-to-day player for their organization with a Jan. 7 deadline to guarantee his full deal for the remainder of the season. If the Lakers had decided to cut ties with Howard at any point in the season without paying him another day, they could have rightfully done so.

It was a trial period for Howard, a test if you will. A test that Howard has unremarkably passed with flying colors.

It is currently the day of the deadline where the Lakers must choose if they are going to keep Howard. Per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are officially picking up Howard’s contract for the rest of the season.
