Breaking down the Sweet 16

East Region

1 Michigan v. 4 Florida State

Joshua Bickel/USA TODAY Sports

Out of all the Sweet 16 matchups, this one, to many fans, is the most intriguing matchup.

Starting with the Florida State, the Seminoles have quietly been going about their business. They beat UNC Greensboro in the first round and then easily moved past Colorado to reach the Sweet 16.

Leonard Hamilton’s squad are a very good defensive unite thanks to their size and athleticism. They love to crash the glass and they’ve have been on of the most consistent teams in the nations. However, they do have one major issue: turnovers.

According to ESPN, Florida State was one of the worst teams in the ACC in turnovers. They gave the rock up 15 times against Colorado.

For Michigan, they have the size to match up nicely with the Notes, but in order for the Wolverines to avoid the upset, they need to convert on Florida State turnovers.

If they can do that than Michigan has a good chance of advancing, plus if they’ve got good old “uncle mo” on their side. That is momentum for anyone unfamiliar to the phrase “uncle mo.”

Michigan is coming off a victory against LSU in which they played brilliant basketball.

This game is going to come down to the wire, which makes for a great watch, and at this point in the tourney that’s all us fans are hoping for.

2 Alabama v. 11 UCLA

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Can the eleventh seeded UCLA Bruins continue their cinderella story going against the SEC champion Crimson Tide? Ehhhh, probably not.

Alabama is too good in so many phases of the game. Their defense is strong enough to bully UCLA in the paint and force them into difficult situations, and their offense is just too explosive for the Bruins. SEC player of the year and defensive player of the year, Herbert Jones, will have a field day against UCLA. Calling it now.

Bama to the Elite 8. Roll Tide!
