Way Too Early Takeaways from the Beginning of the NBA Season

  1. SEXLAND is HERE!

Coming into the NBA season there were a lot of questions surrounding Cleveland’s backcourt. Well, “a lot of questions” is overstating it a bit, since not many people were interested in the Cavs.

The questions around Cleveland’s backcourt of Colin Sexton and Darius Garland were centered around if they could play together. If their play styles could result in winning basketball. Well, so far this season it has. The Cavs strong start to the season has caught the attention of the many basketball heads. And the most surprising part of Cleveland’s strong start has been the play of that backcourt.

Garland and Sexton, beteter know as Sexland has taken the NBA Twitter by storm. Sexland in Cleveland! That’s the best nickname for a duo in the history of the world. Don’t @me.

In all seriousness, Colin Sexton, the third year guard from Alabama, has been balling out. He’s putting up about 26 points per game, which ranks ninth in the league. He’s put up more than 20 points in the Cavs first six games. The last Cavalier to do that was LeBron James.

Sexton isn’t just scoring, he’s doing it efficiently. He’s shooting 55% from the field and 55% from downtown. The dude is balling.

As for his running mate, Darius Garland, well, he’s been balling too. The second year guard from Vanderbilt is putting up about 17 points per game and 6 assists per game, and like Sexton, Garland is doing so efficiently, shooting 45% from the field and 46% from 3.

The Sexland backcourt isn’t the only thing exciting about the Cavs so far. Andre Drummond has been putting up some monster numbers: about 17 points per game, 14 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, 2 blocks per game, and 2 steals per game. However, it should be noted that Drummond is in the last year of his contract, so put up hazard the lights on, but Drummond is playing great on both ends of the court and is helping the Cavs win games.

Will Cleveland continue their strong start to the season and make the playoffs? Probably not, but they’re at least a fun team to watch with a lot of promise which most people didn’t think they had coming into the season.
