Number 2: His Beats deal

In 2008, LeBron James became a part-owner of Beats By Dre, acquiring around 1 percent in the company. 6 years later, Apple bought the company for $3 billion. Due to LeBron’s 1 percent stake, he earned around $26 million in cash, plus around $4 million in Apple stock. Through inflation, this would probably be around $12 million today. That means that he acquired around $38 million just by investing in Dr. Dre’s then-fledgling company. $38 million is around the same value as the max contract in the NBA, meaning that LeBron netted the same profits through shrewd business as he would have through 8 long months of an NBA season.
