L.A Clippers: Head Coach Doc Rivers Ejected After Son Signals Gesture for Technical

Los Angeles Clippers’ head coach Doc Rivers is probably not too happy today after his son, Austin Rivers, had him ejected last night in their loss to the Houston Rockets.

In a highly competitive match-up between the Rockets and the Clippers, Doc was ejected, and his son, who plays for the Rockets, provoked the situation.

As Doc was arguing with the officials, and trailing 96-88 with 1:31 to go, Austin was signaling the gesture for the refs to give a technical foul. As Doc continued arguing with them, they decided in his son’s favor.

Austin Rivers spoke about the situation after the game, claiming that he has seen the look in his father’s eyes “many times,” and was just trying to help.

Doc’s issues with the refs brewed from confusion over how many timeouts he had remaining. Crew chief Tony Brothers admitted his group gave the Clippers the incorrect information regarding the remaining timeouts, as Rivers had attempted to challenge a play but missed the 30-second window.

Rivers was apparently told he got to keep his timeout because no challenge occurred, but that was not the case, per source.

Brothers went on to explain the situation a little further:

He was given an opportunity to try to get his composure, but it didn’t happen, he came out onto the floor when we wanted to start resuming play. He was given a technical foul. The first one he says: ‘I don’t care,’ and he continued to stay on the floor so he was given a second technical and ejected.”

Austin tweeted that Thanksgiving would be a little different this year. However, maybe Doc will come to his senses as things like these happen as competitors, and should not impact the family.

The Clippers’ next game is tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans, where we are expected to see Paul George in action for the first time this season.
