D’Angelo Russell Caught For Trying To Check Bag Of Marijuana Through Airport Security

Brooklyn Nets guard D’Angelo Russell was cited at LaGuardia Airport in New York City for marijuana possession, according to USA TODAY Sports. According to the report, Russell was preparing to fly to his hometown of Louisville, Ky., when the marijuana was found.

The report indicates this infraction “is punishable by a fine of $100 or less.” It was revealed, that Russell tried to use a can of Arizona iced tea in his bag to stash it.

‘Russell, who was flying from LaGuardia Airport to Louisville International Airport, was questioned by police after a routine search by TSA workers flagged what at first glance appeared to be a can of Arizona Iced Tea in a checked bag, a person with knowledge of the incident told USA TODAY Sports. Upon further inspection, the can had a hidden compartment where marijuana was discovered.’

Russell had a career year, and made his first All-Star team. He’s also set to become a restricted free agent so it’ll be interesting to see if this dampens his market.
