Chicago Cubs Regret Not Trading For Justin Verlander

General Manager of the Chicago Cubs Jed Hoyer admitted during an interview on Tuesday that the Chicago Cubs regret not trading for pitcher Justin Verlander back in 2017.

The Houston Astros acquired Justin Verlander from the Detroit Tigers for three prospects. Since then, he has a 2.43 ERA in 68 starts for Houston and as well as a World Series title.

“Of course we have regret,” Hoyer said.

At the time, it was reported that the Cubs were deep in talks with the Tigers and that Verlander preferred to go to Chicago.

Justin Verlander tossed the third no-hitter last Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Verlander struck out 14 and threw 120 pitches at Toronto. The only runner he allowed was Cavan Biggio on a one-out walk in the first inning.
