Why Anthony Davis Doesn’t Have his own Shoe

“Hopefully, if I keep playing to the level I’m playing at and things start going well and going in my favor, we can sit down and talk about a signature shoe. It’s something that I always wanted. I think it’s something that Nike wants, but we just have to figure it out. If it happens, that’ll be another dream come true.”

Despite being a top athlete, Davis doesn’t have a “marketable personality” according to Matt Powell.

Powell, a senior sports industry advisor at NPD Group, informed The Athletic, “Every 12 year old kid thinks he can be Steph Curry. There aren’t a lot of 12 year old kids who think they can be Anthony Davis. The big men tend not to sell a lot of shoes. That’s just a truism of the industry.” He added, “Davis, while he’s on the court is an amazing athlete, but I wouldn’t call him a particularly marketable personality.”
