The University of Minnesota Will End Contract Partnership With Minneapolis PD

The University of Minnesota is making a powerful statement.

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, the University of Minnesota’s President Joan Gabel decided that the Minneapolis PD’s services will no longer be needed at their sports events. Gabel, like many Americans, is questioning the local police department’s ability to protect its citizens when there are people dying at their hands.

46-year-old George Floyd was being detained while a Minneapolis police officer was pressing his knee on his neck. Floyd bluntly said he couldn’t breathe and asked the officer to move his knee. Nevertheless, the officer didn’t budge, and George Floyd was murdered.
