Like I mentioned earlier, the play-in games spark interest in teams that nobody really cares about. This interest means more viewers and more viewers means more money, and at the the end of the day the NBA is a business. They’re going to do what’s best for the business of the league.

If the play-in tourney is a success this season, it might become a permanent part of the NBA season. That may begrudge some players, but it’ll have fans rejoicing everywhere. Well, maybe not rejoicing. That’s probably a stretch, but the play-in will just make the NBA that much more interesting.
