Former WNBA MVP Maya Moore Left The League To Get Her Friend Out Of Jail

Jonathan Irons served 23 years of his 50-year sentence for burglary and assault before his conviction was overturned.

Irons was serving his time in a maximum-security prison since 1998. He was only 16-years-old when he was placed behind bars.

Maya Moore was in a jam-packed courtroom in Jefferson City, sitting next to Irons’ family when the conviction was overturned. Moore was reportedly in tears of joy, as Jonathan and his entire family were when the conviction was officially overturned.

Jonathan Irons told the New York Times:

“It feels like I can just breathe, like the weight of the world is off of me like I have the chance to live.”

“She (Maya Moore) saved my life.”
