Dwyane Wade Explains His 9-Score In The NBA Dunk Contest

The 2020 NBA Dunk Contest was one to remember with superstar dunkers Derrick Jones Jr. and Aaron Gordon battling it out for the win as they took the contest into overtime. However, when Gordon received what many believed to be a disappointing score of 47, which led him to lose against Jones Jr., controversy began immediately.

In a session with Bleacher Report, Dwyane Wade, one of the judges of the contest, was asked about giving Gordon the now-famous nine-score for his final dunk, which was the ultimate finisher to Gordon’s tough loss.

“(laughs) Because I felt that dunk deserved a 9. For the record, a 9 is actually not a bad thing. I thought that dunk deserved a 9 because he didn’t clear him. People are still talking about it months later.

As judges, we did our job. We made it interesting and something that people keep wanting to talk about.”
