Zion Williamson Might Not Play Until 2020

Fans were eager to watch Williamson play for the Pelicans during the 2019-2020 season. However, during a preseason game, Williamson tore his meniscus in his right knee. Previously, when playing at Duke, he suffered an injury on the same knee. Days before his highly anticipated NBA debut, Williamson underwent surgery to repair the lateral meniscus in his knee.

Initially, the timetable for his return was six to eight weeks. It has now been seven weeks since his surgery but it doesn’t seem he will be playing any time soon. Fans hoped he would make his debut on Christmas, but Williamson has not even resumed on court activities.

Following Monday’s practice, Pelicans’ head coach Alvin Gentry spoke to media about Williamson’s progress.

He said, “I think he’s fine. I don’t think it’s anything that can be rushed. I think it’s a time thing. Six weeks is what we said, but obviously, he’s making progress. When the time comes for him to start on court and do things like that, he will. It’s not anything that’s going to be rushed or any shortcut. It’s a matter of taking the time to make sure he’s fine.”
