Why Every Sports Fan NEEDS To Watch “Jump Shot: The Kenny Sailors Story”

If you’re a basketball enthusiast like we are, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for the art of the game after watching this film.

Like most of you reading this, I didn’t know the jump shot had a founding father. The jump shot is a fundamental and necessary offensive move, how could there have been a time without it in the history of the game?

While the great Dr. James Naismith created the game of basketball in 1891, he didn’t create an effective or efficient way to put the ball through the basket without being right next to the hoop. Players had to rely on layups and close bank shots in the early stages of basketball for easy and practical scoring opportunities.

Kenny Sailors: The Long-Forgotten Inventor Of Basketball's Jump ...

This story is about the man that dared to change the game, forever. A gifted young athlete out of Wyoming that went against the grain and the status quo of basketball to create a technique that would evolve the sport. A technique that he and his teammates used at the University of Wyoming to elevate and shoot their way to a National Championship at Madison Square Garden in 1943. The man behind the jump shot is Kenny Sailors.

Most of you probably just heard his name for the first time today. How could the pioneer of jump shooting be forgotten? While that still remains a mystery to us, Kenny Sailor’s story is no longer lost.

Steph Curry teamed up with Cinemaphotographer and Director Jacob Hamilton as the Executive Producer to uncover this inspiring true story. This movie depicts the birth of the jump shot and its evolution as well as Kenny Sailors’ heartwarming life story. Basketball legends featured in the Jump Shot movie includes Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitski, and Bobby Knight.

Critics have been expressed their unanimous approval of the film with a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
