11. Shohei Ohtani Lives up to the Hype

Shohei Ohtani came into 2018 as the biggest story in the MLB. People wanted to see if Ohtani could really become the next Babe Ruth and contribute to the Angels both offensively and as a pitcher.

The pitching was what scouts knew that Ohtani would excel at, but they were less sure about his ability to hit at the highest level. Ohtani made 10 starts and had a 3.31 ERA, before hurting his elbow and needing Tommy John surgery.

What people were not expecting was for Ohtani to rake the way that he did. Ohtani hit .285 with 22 home runs and 61 RBI. Ohtani ended up winning the AL Rookie of the Year.
