The Wade Legacy

NBA legend Dwyane Wade’s impact on and off the court will be immortalized on Instagram, as the three-time NBA champion gives insight into his playing career and his life off the court.

The Dwyane Wade Legacy page, @wade_legacy, was conceptualized by an interesting duo, the all-time NBA great and Dylan Meyer, a current sophomore attending the University of Florida.

Meyer, a then-pre teen living in South Florida, was a die-hard Dwyane Wade fan, like many others living in the region. He utilized his love of graphic design to make graphics and videos of Wade, creating his own instagram fan page. He received a lot of attention over time, eventually growing to over 130,000 followers and grabbing the attention of the NBA star.

DMs turned into occasional video edits for the star, which led to this unique opportunity.

“It’s crazy,” Meyer said. “I still get a tingly feeling when I get texts from him, because it’s like, you know, Dwyane Wade at the end of the day. Who would have thought, doing something you do for fun as a young kid, and then all of a sudden you get to work with someone you’ve looked up to? It’s surreal.”

The theme of the page stretches far beyond Dwyane’s accomplishments on the court. It also covers his philanthropic efforts, his business ventures, and of course, his wife, Gabrielle Union and their children.

“I personally want people to know about Dwyane the true person,” Meyer added. “Lots of people just know him as the greatest player to ever play for Miami and one of the best shooting guards of all time. Of course, there’s the highlights that come with the page. But, I want people to know how involved he is with his community, his activism, and his relationship with his family.”
