17. The Rookie (2002)

The Rookie is almost two separate baseball movies tied in one, as the movie opens with Dennis Quaid as a high school baseball coach. The first half of the movie is a typical high school sports story, in which a coach promises his team that he will try out for the big leagues if his team can win Districts.

After his high school team wins Districts and the bet, Quaid embarks on a minor league baseball career at nearly 40 years old that ends up with him pitching in the MLB. This was all based on the true story of Jim Morris’ life.
