Moneyball is based on the true story of Oakland Athletics GM Billy Beane’s use of analytics to turn a small-market team into one that could contend with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

The ironic thing about this story is that now the big market teams have embraced the analytics and are doing “Moneyball” better than the team that originated it.

Getting to the movie, Brad Pitt stars as Beane and is great in the role. Also, Jonah Hill provides the comic relief for the movie, as Beane’s genius sidekick that crunches all the numbers.
