Derek Harper had an excellent career, playing primarily with the Dallas Mavericks for which he spent 12 seasons. Harper was known for his work on the defensive end of the floor and was twice named to All-Defensive teams.

Harper had many great years where he could have been considered an All-Star, but the best of which was during the 1990-91 season. Harper averaged nearly 20 points, seven assists and two steals per game that year.
