The Los Angeles Clippers were so desperate to rid themselves of the contract of Baron Davis that they attached an unprotected 2011 first round pick in trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers to get the deal done. Since they did not protect the pick, when it landed at No. 1 overall there was nothing that they could do other than handing it over to the Cavs.

Cleveland was then able to use that pick to select stud Duke point guard Kyrie Irving. Irving went on to become a perennial All-Star and is one of the best scorers in the NBA.
