Super Bowl LIV on-field prop bets: Will Kyle Shanahan blow another 28-3 lead?
The Super Bowl is more than the biggest sporting event of the year. It is a holy day for sports gambling enthusiasts, where you can bet on everything ranging from the final score to whether any players will be arrested immediately afterwards. According to estimates, more than $6 billion is wagered on the Super Bowl. Even your Great Aunt, who can’t tell a football from a hockey puck, probably fills out a Super Bowl square.
In honor of the big game, we will be looking at some of the most interesting Super Bowl LIV betting options throughout the week at Playmaker HQ — culminating in score predictions Friday. But of course, the spread and over-under just scratch the surface when it comes to Super Bowl betting options. The real fun lies in the prop bets, especially on the offshore books, where you can wager money on the length of Demi Lovato’s rendition of the national anthem and all sorts of random things.
To kick off the week, we will look at some of the more unique on-field prop bets that are on the board. Our list comes courtesy of ESPN:
Will Kyle Shanahan blow another 28-3 lead?
Odds: 100-1
Three years ago, the Falcons seemingly forgot they were leading the Patriots 28-3 in the second half of Super Bowl LI. Inexplicably, they continued to throw the ball at a torrid rate, setting the state for the Patriots’ historic comeback win.
Shanahan has recovered nicely since the blunder, which could have defined his coaching career. Instead, he’s leading the 49ers to their first Super Bowl since 1995.
Mathematically, it’s nearly impossible to imagine San Francisco will find itself blowing a 28-3 lead. On top of that, Shanahan has affirmed his place as one of the game’s offensive geniuses. He will coach a great game, and undoubtedly be a strength for the Niners.
Will LeBron score more points against Kings on Feb. 1 than Patrick Mahomes will have completions?
Mahomes favored by 1.5 completions
Above all else, this prop bet is a math problem. LeBron is averaging 25.2 points per game this season; Mahomes is averaging 22.8 completions per contest. Go with LeBron.
Will Super Bowl LIV go into overtime?
Odds: Around 8-1
Roughly five percent of Super Bowl games have gone into overtime. We’ve had some nail biters in recent years — four of the last five Super Bowls have been decided by 10 points or fewer — but none have gone into OT. So maybe we’re due. But the smarter money is to bet “no,” or sit this prop bet out.
Over/under on longest touchdown
45.5 yards
It’s tempting to bet the “over,” because of all the playmakers on Kansas City. But keep in mind: the 49ers have a great defense, and 45.5 yards is really, really long.
There should be some explosive plays Sunday. But the explosion will likely happen in spurts shorter than the over/under total.

The coin toss is the most popular Super Bowl bet, which makes sense, because it is the epitome of luck.
With that said, tails never fails — especially when the masses are going with “heads.”
