Wild Super Bowl prop bets: How long will it take Demi Lovato to sing anthem?

It’s projected that 26 million Americans will wager a record $7 billion on Super Bowl 54. And for many, betting on the football game itself will be the furthest thing from their minds.

The spread for 49ers-Chiefs remains -1.5, meaning Vegas views this matchup as a pick ‘em. Not only is it more fun to bet on some of the Super Bowl’s idiosyncrasies, but it might also be wiser, given the unpredictability of the game itself.

There are many off-the-wall prop bets out there, ranging from the halftime show to specifics about the broadcast. Five of our favorite are below, along with some guided wisdom:

National anthem prop bet: How long will it take Demi Lovato to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner?”

The national anthem prop bet is a Super Bowl mainstay, with betters everywhere placing money on whether the artist of choice will bellow out “bombs bursting in air!” and “home of the brave!” for a few beats too long. This year, the line is set at under two minutes, and it would be wise to bet exactly that.

Fortunately, Lovato has a history of singing the national anthem before big sporting events. She’s sung before three World Series contests, an NFL Thanksgiving Day game and the infamous novelty boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. All of the aforementioned performances clocked in at under two minutes, except for her rendition before Mayweather-McGregor, which timed out at 2:11.

Halftime show prop bet: Will Shakira and J-Lo both sing in Spanish?

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are slated to perform in the halftime show this year, and the two bilingual stars are seemingly guaranteed to speak in their native tongue. It would be difficult for Shaira to avoid speaking some Spanish, considering many of her hit songs feature Spanish lyrics.

Another intriguing Halftime show prop bet is whether Alex Rodriguez, who’s currently dating Lopez, will be shown on screen during the performance.

Commercials prop bet: How many commercials will air?

The Bovada over/under line for the number of commercials to air during the game is set at 92.5. The guts say to bet the “over” here, since network executives will seemingly always try to squeeze in as many spots as possible.

The cost for companies to air a 30-second ad during the big game cost up to $5.6 million this year, so in addition to making sure their paid commercials run, you can guarantee advertising executives will be fretting about the placement of their spots as well.

Broadcast prop bet: Will Tom Brady be mentioned?

Tom Brady’s free agency has loomed over the Super Bowl festivities all week, and that will continue to be the case Sunday.

It’s easy to imagine Fox broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman bringing up TB12 a couple of times, largely in connection to Jimmy Garoppolo, his former backup and protege.

Postgame bet: Will a player be arrested in Miami following the game?

While it’s fun to imagine NFL stars going wild on South Beach following the Super Bowl, the winning team always throws a closed-door party that goes deep into the following morning. If any illegal activity takes place, it won’t happen on the streets. That’s for sure.
