Nike Unveils Joyride, Its Newest Proprietary Cushioning System

Nike has just unveiled its newest form of proprietary footwear cushioning called Joyride. In keeping with Nike’s innovation for materials that are light in weight, and offer a high level of energy return, the Joyride features pods that hold thousands of little TPE beads, each placed strategically in positions where the foot strikes the ground when in motion.

Each TPE bead is able to expand in all directions, nike calls this multi-dimensional displacement, so that each wearer can enjoys a more personalised underfoot experience.

Each pod is also divided into zones which will see the need for more cushioning. For example, the heel area receives 50 percent of the 8,000 TPE beads for heel striking while the toe area only sees 5 percent.

Joyride gets added to the list of groundbreaking cushioning from Nike, which also includes the likes of Nike Air and Nike React.

The Joyride will have a members-exclusive release starting with the Nike Joyride Run Flyknit on July 25, followed by a global release on August 15.

Other models to be released with Joyride cushioning will be the Joyride NSW Setter (Men’s) and Optik (Women’s) on September 7, the Joyride NSW (Unisex) on September 20, and the Joyride NSW Setter MMW on September 22. Each pair will retail for $180, $140, and $200 USD, respectively.
