NFL Betting Preview: Super Bowl

Today is arguably the greatest day in the sports calendar, Super Bowl Sunday!

The Los Angeles Rams get to play at their home stadium as they square off against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. The Rams have a star-studded roster that was built to make it to the Super Bowl with players like Jalen Ramsey, Odell Beckham Jr., Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Von Miller and Matthew Stafford, amongst others, who are looking to win the Super Bowl after failing to get the job done against the Patriots three years ago.

On the other side, the Cincinnati Bengals are this year’s Cinderella Story, as they only four games last season and now find themselves in the Super Bowl. This is the first time since 1988 that the Bengals have made it the Super Bowl and they have never won it. Joe Burrow is one of the game’s best young quarterbacks, who doesn’t seemed to be effected by the pressure in any way.

The stage is set for an incredible game, with two of the more likeable teams that have been in the big game in some time. If you want to invest in a rooting interest for tonight’s game, here is your betting preview for the Super Bowl.

Cincinnati Bengals (13-7) vs. Los Angeles Rams (15-5)

Spread: LAR (-4)

Money Line: CIN (-190) KC (+165)

Over/Under: 48.5 Points

Interestingly enough, the Bengals and Rams scored exactly the same amount of points during the regular season, as each team produced 460 points of offense. Defensively these teams were only separated by four points when it comes to points allowed in the regular season, so there is not much we can draw from their point differential as it was nearly identical this year.

In the playoffs, both of these teams have found ways to come back and have great success late in games. The Rams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game, keeping them off the board in the last quarter to win 20-17.

Meanwhile the Bengals were down 21-3 against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, yet found a way to win. On paper the Rams are the better team, but the Bengals feel like the team of destiny here.

One thing to take note of is that since the divisional round of the playoffs, five of the six games have been decided by a field goal. If that pattern continues and we get another close game, taking the points could be the smartest way to bet against the spread.

Best Bet:

There are two players that have me leaning towards the Bengals in this matchup. The first is of course Joe Burrow, who is building the reputation for being one of the most clutch players in the NFL. The second is Evan McPherson, the Bengals kicker who has been lights out for Cincy this year. Something tells me this game ends with McPherson kicking a game-winning field goal. But even if it doesn’t, as long as the Bengals keep the game within a field goal, you come out victorious.

Take the Bengals with the four-point spread.
