Matthew Stafford heading to Los Angeles in Blockbuster NFL Trade

Two first round picks, a third round pick, and a 26 year-old quarterback might seem like a lot to give up for Matt Stafford, a soon to be 33 year-old QB whose had his fair share of injuries. However, this makes all the sense in the world for the Rams

Stafford is a major upgrade over Goff, and not just any upgrade, an upgrade at the league’s most important position.

Since the Rams Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots two years ago, Jared Goff has played mediocre football. He’s been more of what analyst would call a “game-manager,” as opposed to a QB who elevates the people around him. This season showed the Rams that Goff isn’t the quarterback of the future for them.

Goff was given everything a quarterback could ask for: The league’s best defense, a great group of skill players like running back Cam Akers and wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, a solid offensive line, and one of the best coaching staffs in the league. Yet, the fifth year QB turned the ball over 17 times in 15 games.

He was often carried by the defense or the running game, and that can’t be the case for the quarterback of a team in win-now mode.

Stafford on the other hand has proven to be a top 10 QB in the league when healthy, and that’s playing with the Detroit Lions who have had a revolving door of coaching staffs, one of the worst rushing attacks in the league, and a mediocre defense throughout Stafford’s time in the Motor City.

Speaking of win-now mode, that’s what this trade is all about for the Rams. With lots of money tied up to Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, and no first round picks for the next three years, the Rams are truly going for it all.

Stafford puts the Rams right up there as one of the best teams in the NFC. In fact, as of writing this article, Sports Betting Dime now has the Rams as the third best odds to win next years Super Bowl.
