November 18 has now officially been named “Astroworld Day” in Travis Scott‘s hometown of Houston, Texas.
To honor the rapper, Mayor Sylvester Turner held a special ceremony at City Hall to which dozens of students from various schools and organizations were in attendance. Scott accepted the recognition with a heartfelt speech, touching upon the inspirations behind his recent hit album, Astroworld, along with sharing his love of Houston and his “beautiful wife” Kylie Jenner. Scott was also honored as an ambassador for the arts, education and youth initiatives.
“I grew up here my whole life. I was inspired by Astroworld. In ‘05 when they took it away, it kind of like took a big piece of my heart away,” he said. “I just wanted to kind of bring back that feeling and give this city something [so] they can always have something fun to do.”
Thank you, @trvisXX for stopping by city hall the day after your successful #AstroworldFest2018 . Your message to the high school students in the room left a great impression. #TravisScott pic.twitter.com/EePpeNsfiW
