Do Sports Sponsorships Influence Fans Purchasing?

The NBA allows teams to display sponsors on players’ uniforms.

While consuming sports, it is impossible to escape being a marketing target for advertisers. From naming stadiums and arenas to logos on jerseys and billboards, fans are inundated with corporate sponsorship endeavors. The question then is posed, “Do sports sponsorships make an impact on purchasing decisions?”. I analyzed my own tendencies and the data to find out.

Do Team Sponsorships Impact My Purchasing?

Quite frankly, I know companies aren’t spending billions per year for no return on investment. Additionally, there are times where our purchasing decisions are determined by the circumstance. As a fan, sports sponsorships have impacted some of my purchases.

For instance, if I’m at a sporting venue, then my decision-making is limited. The arena may only offer one brand of soft drink option. So technically, that sponsorship did impact my purchase in that situation. Also, there have been times where a particular promotion caused me to purchase an item. Like because your team won, you get an item at a restaurant free or discounted for a limited time.
