Cleveland Indians Part Ways With Chief Wahoo With 2019 Season Uniforms

The Cleveland Indians have revealed its new uniforms for 2019, and it doesn’t involve their mascot, Chief Wahoo. Last January, the Indians announced that they would stop using their legendary, yet controversial logo. The baseball team is now rolling out its long-term plan to phase out the character in a move to align with the league’s “commitment to building a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout the game.”

According to reports, the fact that the Cleveland Indians will host the 2019 MLB All-Star Game pushed for the removal, as Chief Wahoo would’ve been replaced by the All-Star Game logo anyways. It is interesting to note that although the Cleveland Indians won’t be wearing the Chief Wahoo motif, the mascot will not be gone forever as the team will maintain its trademark of the character for a limited run of merchandise.
