Blazers to wear ’76-77 uniforms this season.

During five home games this season, the Portland Trail Blazers will wear red jerseys with “blazers” in lowercase letters written vertically down the chest.

The retro jerseys resemble those the team wore during the 1976-77 season, when they won the NBA title. Bill Walton, the center during the 1976-77 team, helped the Blazers unveil the jerseys on Sunday.

The Portland Trailblazers are celebrating their 50th NBA season.

As much as the fans seem to love these uniforms, they weren’t in circulation for very long at all. Portland switched to a design that resembles its current uniform far more closely right after their championship in 1977, with the only major change being the font of the word “Portland.” Changing uniforms after a championship is an extreme rarity in sports, and so many Blazers fans never got to properly enjoy them.

PDX fans will this season, as Blazers will wear these uniforms for five regular-season home games this season as well as the preseason opener on Oct. 8. Dates for when they will wear the uniforms have not yet been announced, but if the reaction to this announcement is any indication, these jerseys should receive a very warm welcome when they are worn in action.

The Blazers are in playoff contention this year and believe that they are contenders for the big prize via CJ McCollum via The Woj Pod.
