Biggest Winner and Losers from NBA Free Agency

Biggest Winner: The Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers did an exceptional job during free agency this year. The Purple and Gold added Montrezl Harrell, the reigning sixth man of the year, to a two year, $19 million deal, Marc Gasol, a future hall-of-famer, on a two year, $5.3 million deal and Weasley Matthews, a solid 3-and-D wing, to a one year, $3.6 million deal. The Lakers also managed to resign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on a three year, $40 million deal, and trade for Dennis Schroder, all according to ESPN’s Adrain Wojnarowski.

Even though the Lakers added some great players, they also lost some as well; “with Additions come subtractions”, as the saying goes.

The Lakers lost Rajon Rondo to the Atlanta Hawks, Dwight Howard to the Philadelphia 76ers, and JaVale McGee was traded to the Cleveland Cavilers.

Back to Dwight Howard for a second. He tweeted that he planned on resigning with the Lakers.

According to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, Howard was under the impression that he was offered a one year, $3 million deal with the Lakers. However, Howard wasn’t offered any deal from the Lakers.

Later that day, Howard signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on a one year $2.6 million deal, and Howard eventually deleted the tweet.

What’s up with that guy? Just when people were coming back around to Dwight after helping the Lakers win a title, he does something like this. It would have been fine if he just didn’t tweet anything and signed with Philly, but nope. He couldn’t resist.

Alright that’s enough about Dwight Howard, let’s get back to why the Lakers are a better team this upcoming season.
